Leg 1 report Our eight boats started in a very light Southerly on Friday afternoon, which meant a long drift out of Wellington harbour. Satellite Spy unfortunately caught an island of weed around their keel at the start, which slowed them considerably. After their dedicated crew took a quick swim to remove the weed, their performance improved greatly. The Guarantee had a great start, leading the whole fleet as they passed Point Halswell and again further out. But the green machine wasabi managed to get on the right side of the ferry at Barrett’s Reef to lay through and head…
We’ve finalised the sailing instructions and they’re available to download in the Documents and Noticeboard tab. View a copy here and competitors will be provided with a printed copy in their race packs at the briefing on Friday, with a few other goodies.
This third edition of the Central Triangle is being run as a combined fully-crewed and two handed event. The approximately 730nm race starts from Wellington on Friday March 4 at 1500 hours when boats head south on the 190nm leg to Akaroa. After a short stopover and a chance to experience the fabulous local hospitality, boats head north on the longest leg (350nm) to Napier. With an opportunity to visit the local wineries, complete some repairs or rest up, the boats then complete the triangle with the return 200nm leg to Wellington.
We’re one month away from the start of the 2022 Fully Crewed and Two Handed Central Triangle and 9 boats are working on their boat job lists to make the start. The small fleet size (and the majority being two-handed entries) means that the total number of sailors, local volunteers, shore crew and the race management team should keep any gatherings under the 100 limit. But as we…
Two divisions – fully crewed and two handed – will start this race from Wellington on Friday March 4, heading south for Leg 1 to Akaroa, then Leg 2 to Napier before returning to Wellington. This 730nm race is being run as a modified Safety Category 2 race as competitors are expected to deal with a range of weather conditions. Entry is open to monohulls over 7.924 metres that meet the entry criteria, as outlined in the Notice of Race. “We first ran this race in 2013 as a two handed event, with the idea that boats from the central…
Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club is pleased to announce the return of the Central Triangle race in 2022 starting Friday March 4 (a few weeks after the Northern Triangle.) First run as a two handed event in 2013, then as a fully crewed event in 2015, the 2022 event will be a combined fully crewed and two handed inclusive event. For the two handed entrants it’s an ideal qualifier race for RNI 2023 especially for boats south of the Bombays. The approximately 730nm race starts from Wellington and boats head south on the 190nm leg to Akaroa. After a short…
